Dennys Photo Gallery: Invisible Women Around The World

International Women's DayImage by George via Flickr

From Denny: Featured here are some amazing portraits of elderly women around the world, one is my own photo taken of a mountain woman in Taiwan. One had a story from Mexico about the portrait from the photographer.  The majority of the photos are from Creative Commons at Flickr.  Just click on the photos to take you to the photographers' pages.

These photos certainly give us something to think about in the way of women's rights and women's issues all over the world in every country and every culture.  These are the lives of some women and how they are perceived through the eyes of a lens.

The Social Poets: Funny News: Fake David Koch Punked Idiot GOP Wisconsin Gov. Walker

The Social Poets: Funny News: Fake David Koch Punked Idiot GOP Wisconsin Gov. Walker - Talk about hilarious. A liberal blogger, Ian Murphy of Buffalo.Beast.com, decided to place a call to Gov. Walker, claiming to be billionaire businessman, David Koch and the governor bought it hook, line and sinker.

New Blog: Dennys: News Politics Comedy Science Arts and Food

From Denny: The first six weeks of this new year were used to revamp the blog templates and corral all the blogs connectint them  to one new blog as an online newspaper called Dennys: News Politics Comedy Science Arts & Food. Yeah, it slowed down the number of posts I could publish but hey! at some point a girl just has to dust the house.

As an eclectic person I have far too many interests and it doesn't look like I'm anywhere near ready to quit on that front. :) On the flagship blog, The Social Poets, a couple of years ago I started branching out and noticed too many different genre posts a day overwhelmed people. So, I started various niches like a science blog called The Soul Calendar to place all the intriguing discoveries in the news, mostly astronomy, psychology, neuroscience. Then there were the crazy humor blogs that followed: Ouch Outrageous Obnoxious And Odd and Dennys Funny Quotes.

Now these crazy blogs are growing like weeds both in content and in the search engines as well as the blog directory ranks. Of course, Google in particular makes bloggers jump through hoops while trying to promote their content. Just in two years the internet atmosphere has changed drastically, especially in what has been brought on line technology wise for improving the blogs in appearance and speed.

Yes, I still love my widgets which are a real no-no in the website world because it can slow down loading time.  I figure at some point it can't just be all about The Blogger Mini Me. I find too many sites and blogs ignore their readers interests or reading comfort. So, I continue with allowing blog community widgets so we all can see those happy faces who visit - and help promote those same bloggers as my visitors may decide to visit their blogs.  The new templates have sped up the blogs in spite of the widgets so now it's a win-win situation.

To make things easier for you the reader to navigate all my many posts there are several options available to make it easy for you to pick and choose your interests.  There is a horizontal headline scroll at the top of each blog that lists what has recently linked at Dennys News .  Check out that blog and you will find vertical widgets on both sidebars for each blog, all twelve at the moment,  listing the most recent five posts.

On each blog is also a vertical widget on the sidebar - from Dennys News - listing the most recent post from each of the blogs. Got all that?  It's easier visually than it sounds. :)  Hopefully, this new strategy will prove to better organize and connect all the various blogs for you the reader!

And then I have to figure out what to do with this new official online newspaper - like what to post over there too.  Blogging is such fun, especially when Blogspot.com allows you to generate content to your heart's happiness all for free.

Yes, I admit it; I am an information junkie.  Maybe it's time you and I both start up an Information Junkies Anonymous.  No worries.  I will be the first to stand up and say, "Hi, I'm Denny and I'm an Information Junkie."  To which you respond, "Hi, Denny!"

Art: Collage of Lady Gaga Photos Mosaic

Lady Gaga at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.Image via Wikipedia
From Denny:  Check out this clever collage, especially the really large version - there's a link. It shows the individual photos used to create the mosaic. This collage is even more stunning after you view the largest version of it because you can clearly see just how many different kinds of photos went into its making. Bravo!

Photo and mosaic by QThomas Bower @ flickr.

From the photographer:

"Lady Gaga Telephone Mosaic

"A sideways glance at the world of pop art, pop music, and music video."

I created this new work of fan art out of screen shots from Lady Gaga's pop hit videos Bad Romance and Telephone (featuring Beyonce).

Taken from a blend of stills from her now infamous Telephone video, the source portrait features Lady Gaga giving a candid glance into the video camera with a self-aware, almost sardonic, look in her eyes, as she turns to Beyonce and says, "You know what they say: Once you kill a cow, you gotta make a burger."

Top Pop Diva and Glam Rock Love, Lady Gaga and her image team, the Haus of Gaga, continue the tradition of shocking images and catchy tunes inspired by David Bowie, Queen, Annie Lennox, and Madonna. (Even Britney Spears - who turned down the chance to record Telephone herself - made a complete demo version!)

View this art work in the large size -- or, you can GAGA-SIZE IT.

39 Egypt Revolution Photos From The Streets

From Denny: All over the world people joined the protesters in the 18 day Egypt Revolution to support them. Here are photos gleaned from protests primarily in Tahrir Square in Cairo, Egypt. There was also a significant protest rally in Melbourne, Australia with some poignant signs depicting torture of the Mubarak regime.

This was primarily a peaceful protest, at least on the part of the protesters. It turned violent, hundreds killed, injured, imprisoned and tortured by Mubarak until the world outcry got too loud. Mubarak eventually stepped down because the military no longer supported him.

The following photos depict the street level perspective as it unfolded day to day.  It revealed a gritty, changing scene and sense of uncertainty.

This post is to honor those who risked their lives - and their futures - to secure a quality future for their country: Egypt. Your courage and determination is exemplary. Congratulations on your new freedom of speech and new democracy in the making.

These photos are from Flickr Creative Commons and are made available for free use by the photographers. Just click on the images to take you to their flickr pages. Thank you for releasing these photos for all to view. All descriptions and comments after the photos are from the photographers.

From Denny:  What an outrageous house. Talk about an extravagant waste of money when so many in the world are starving or in need of shelter.

There is also a car made from sterling silver. Talk about crazy. Try polishing that during any holiday season! Not to mention how silver conducts heat like crazy in the desert. You too can ride in the Hot Mobile. Woo! Hoo! They don't call you a Hottie for no reason...

From Denny: Today's hip teachers are nothing like they were in your grandmother's day. Kinda makes you want to change professions and be a teacher now, cuz it sure looks more exciting after the Chevy people ran this ad. Either that or these ad pitch men have been watching waaaay too many Hollywood movies.

Dennys Funny Quotes: Funny Mardi Gras Quotes, Who Dat Rocking Saints Songs

Dennys Funny Quotes: Funny Mardi Gras Quotes, Who Dat Rocking Saints Songs - Congrats go to the Packers who won this year's Super Bowl! Let the partying begin!

Here is last year's winner, the New Orleans Saints. What a huge surprise it was to win the Super Bowl, the first for this beaten down team. Get a grin at the partying in the French Quarter and the different rock songs for the team.

The Packers have their Cheesehead song and the Saints have their Who Dat?! song. For my second language friends: Who Dat = Who is that?

Right after Hurricane Katrina, all in a half a million strong flurry, half of New Orleans moved to my town of Baton Rouge, the state's capital, overwhelming us and our resources. We soon adjusted after a few months and assimilated everyone. They still can't drive. :)

All we heard in the grocery stores and the shopping malls was the "Who dat?" phrase. We soon started calling New Orleans people The Who Dats and the name stuck with New Orleans wearing it like a badge of pride. :) Winning the Super Bowl was just what New Orleans needed to make them feel really good. There is still a lot of celebrating going on - but then that's the New Orleans Who Dat Nation!
